No one celebrates a wedding quite like the Indian culture does. When Priya contacted me to capture her bridal shower, I couldn’t have been more thrilled! I pride myself on being able to cater to the many cultures of the world and I love colour. Nothing is more colourful than the Asian cultures.
Priya’s preparation for the event, with the help of friends and family, were extensive as you can see in the small details. The Pavilion on Northbourne worked with her to achieve her vision. The venue is filled with tons of natural light streaming down into the atrium in two joined buildings. As I shot there, I realised this is the perfect wet weather location for portraits in Canberra! With the rainy season ahead I’ll have to keep this in mind for further wedding days with rainy forecasts.
Priya came directly from hair and makeup and what a stunning vision she was in a traditional Indian dress. I believe this is her third wedding outfit so far! That dress was worth every penny, she was STUNNING!
Her 22 guests arrived to celebrate and feast on the amazing buffet. We captured lots of portraits together, each friend having their turn with the beautiful bride-to-be.
And just as they were about to sit down to eat, the server got everyone’s attention to announce a special guest and a dashing man in a white suit appeared. Well Priya was STUNNED. I mean she stood there for a good five minutes saying – ‘no, surely not, what? How?’. It was her husband-to-be – Snehil!
Now the might not seem like a huge deal, except that this is a long distance couple! He had flown in from Adelaide to Canberra to surprise her! And everybody else, since he didn’t let anyone know he was coming!
We got a handful of portraits of the couple together, before everyone gathered to celebrate the happy union to come.
I can’t wait to see what the future holds for these two lovebirds. They are yet to set an official wedding date, but when they do, it is going to be huge event of love and celebration and most of all COLOUR!
